“The Classic One is the first round-shaped watch I’ve designed, but the approach to creating it was a sort of…historical challenge. When I decided to work on the project, I knew from the beginning it would be a 38mm diameter watch and I’d make it as thin as possible. This is what I have come to understand makes a watch wearable more than anything else - it’s appropriate dimensions. At 9mm thin, the watch does not feel fragile, but is evocative of the tactility of wristwatches in the neo-vintage era. The case and bezel are of a stepped architecture with polished and brushed finishes. The lugs are artisanal in their aesthetic - long and drawn out from the case with partially concave flanks.

The dial’s construction was particular, especially as I explained the concept to Cadranor. The center section is made of traditional brass and galvanized to either a black or ivory color, depending on the variation. The colors have been chosen specifically to augment the watch’s raison d’etre. Ivory invokes a feeling of nostalgia for me. Black, it’s inverse, is timeless in modernity and remains constant in the zeitgeist. Thus, I ask the collector to make their choice! There is a slight gradient effect emanating from the center with a very fine texturized finish. Extending out from this solid dial is a transparent sapphire ring which holds the applied cabochon minutes track with quarters highlighted. Underneath this clear ring is the clous de paris tronqué guilloche pattern, in either ivory or ruthenium color. This construction delivered on my vision for dynamism in the Classic One via both, dimensionality, and, the minutes and seconds track casting it’s shadow on the guilloché plane under light.

The movement animating the watch is the AMT6600. AMT is the bespoke and high-end movement manufacture and sister company of Sellita SA. The movement has been heavily modified for Havid Nagan with the mainplate featuring a soft hammered finish and galvanized into a 6N red gold hue - a purposefully antiquated decoration. The bridges have been skeletonized, ruthenium coated, and anglage applied - a more modern aesthetic, carrying further the brand’s motto - “paradoxical design”. This execution was inspired by a pocket watch built by two of the industry’s greatest minds, the late Urban Jurgensen and Derek Pratt.

The Classic One is the first of it’s eventual lineage - a model line of classically designed round watches featuring unique case designs and complication executions.

This is only the beginning for Havid Nagan and it’s history. Big things have small beginnings.”
