Realities of the global economy

Hello friends,

While I’ve not communicated to you directly for some time, I hope that the media I’ve been working on has kept you up to date with the happenings at Havid Nagan. It may seem quiet, I assure you the work behind the scenes is always moving as I do handle my own public relations (who better to tell my story than I?) and prefer to not outsource (nor would it be a wise business decision).

Progress on the production for the HN00’s is moving along nicely and consistently but as some of you might have been told in-person, we have been pushed to February 2023 for delivery, 2 months later than originally planned. While not preferred of course, I wanted to communicate the information only after it had been confirmed. The main reason behind the delays are small components and case manufacturing. On the component front (jewels, screws, etc.), the typical timeline for ordering and delivering these micro-components was 6-8 weeks, or 2 months roughly speaking. We are now looking at a timeline of roughly 6-8 months! The same timelines are expected for case manufacturing as 1, manufacturing partners/suppliers have leaned into production of phone cases and 2, the demand placed upon these suppliers is significant.

The aforementioned applies to the industry at large and is exacerbated when dealing with small micro-brands like Havid Nagan. My production is, not a drop, rather a vapor in the proverbial ocean that is the market at large. While media outlets speak of the benefits of manufacturing in-house, one of the most important being production control, a large part of the industry still relies on the historical dynamic of “etablissage.”

This was how manufacturing was done, at every vertical in brand offering, before Zenith and other historical brands began acquiring their suppliers, bringing their production “in-house”, and becoming manufactures d’horlogerie. Many of the brands we all know and love, still use the same system of reliance on suppliers and manufacturers of dials, bridges, cases, hands, sapphire crystals, etc. to bring their creations to life.

All of this is to say while I share frustration with you in the newly set standard for delivery timelines, I more so wish for the watches to be delivered within quality standards. Of course, I will always keep you updated on the timelines, especially if they are expedited. The next Journal will contain updates on the development of HN01 Lucine as I do have exciting things to share with you all.

My best to you all as always,
Aren J BAZERKANIAN
